6 What in the world

Utah telephone changes
Last week we mentioned that those of us living in Utah in the 801 area code need to begin using the full 10-digit number (area code + 7-digit telephone number) when placing local calls. It will become mandatory starting March 1.

Some things to note: The price of a call, coverage area, or other rates and services will not change because of the new 385 area code. What is a local call now will remain a local call regardless of the number of digits dialed. And you will still dial just three digits to reach 911 emergency services.

Darwin awards
The Darwin awards are bestowed each year, honoring the least evolved among us. Taking this year's number six spot: A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. Than man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of money he got from the drawer? $15. (So, if someone points a gun at you and gives you money, has a crime been committed?)
