A report from Angie Craine dated July 3

Melissa had a baby in May. Not sure of the date, but her name is Meleigha Zoe Montano.

Not sure on the spelling of the first name.

My Richard has been in chemotherapy treatments since March for stage 4 rectal cancer.

It metastasized to his lungs. He has been very ill and has lost about 60 pounds since March.

Mom is expecting another grandchild (John and Morgan) and a great grandchild (Josh and Veronica) early this next year.

Craig Foley was set apart as the bishop in their ward last July.

Bill completed the Ironman triathlon in May, with a bad knee.  But he is an ironman.

Zander Duay had a seizure at the Laramie Rec Center pool last week, and had a 

grand mal seizure while in the hospital. They don't know why or how. It was pretty

scary.

I think that is all the latest. Mom might have due dates and birth dates. Everyone else is doing well.

Others in the family
Following the wedding festivities when Lyle and Nina married on July 21 (see item 1 in this newsletter), Jerry and Jim, Gene and Cheryl, Dean and Claudia, and Dale and LeAnn gathered at Dale and LeAnn's house in Nampa to visit further throughout the rest of the afternoon. They concluded with dinner at the pizza buffet in Nampa where Keisha works as a manager.

The next day, following Dale and LeAnn's midday church meetings and dinner with Dale and LeAnn and Micah and Keisha, Dean and Claudia drove across the state for their week at Lava Hot Springs in southeastern Idaho.

5 Our family 50 years ago

Wed, Aug 1.  Came home from Utah.

Thurs, Aug 2.  Dale left at 6: for Church Camp with Bishop Madison, to Father & Sons Outing & stay all nite.

Fri, Aug 3.  Ivard & Dean went to Fathers & Sons Outing.

Sat, Aug 4.  I was sick. Gail & Lynda came a few min at 1:. They said Gene left last nite with Marvin Haney for Rexburg to see about going to school. Ray went to Stake House to help Baptize.

Sun, Aug 5.  Ray didn't have to work until 3: today so him & Dean went to Priesthood, he came home & got Dale & Jackie & they went to Sunday School & Fast meeting, Ray & Dale bore their testimony. Ivard showed us all of our home movies.

Mon, Aug 6.  Sent letter to Lyle - Mother - Kent. Wrote Kay & sent this afternoon.

Tues, Aug 7.  At 1: Ivard & I - Dean, Dale & Jackie went to Givins & went swimming for hr. then ate our dinner out in the Park. At 4: we left for Adrian. Went to Shulthies awhile then over to Gails. Gene was takeing chills & burning up so I gave him aspirin & got him to bed, his feaver broke before we left at 10:30. Jerry left for Salt Lake at 9:

Wed, Aug 8.  Packed a lunch & at 1:30 we left for Silver City. looked around & had our lunch & took a movie of the town & scenery going up & back. Got home at 8: Just drove in when Gail came. Gail said Gene stayed home from work sick but felt a lot better. He has copper posining.

Thurs, Aug 9.  Jerry got home from Salt Lake, went to Sun Valley on way home. Ray & I took Jackie to Primary, Dale went on bike.

Fri, Aug 10.  I don't feel good. I iorned all afternoon.

Sat, Aug 11.  I don't feel so hot, washed a batch of cloths & iorned awhile. Cut out a dress & bloomer for Jackie.

Sun, Aug 12.  Ivard, Jerry, Ray & Dean went to Priesthood & Sunday School. I took Dale & Jackie up at 11:45 then I got dinner & we ate at 2: Jerry grabbed a bite then went to Stake meeting.

Mon, Aug 13.  Ivard made a new drain just for washer, so it wouldn't fill the septic tank. No Mutual but Ray went to weight lifting class & swimming after.

Tues, Aug 14.  Lyle, Barbra & Kids came. We brought them all home with us to stay all nite. Ivard cooked hambergers on grill & we ate out on lawn. Jerry got month off to go hunt Job in Utah.

Wed, Aug 15.  At 9:45 Ivard & Dean took Lyle, Barbra & Douglas over to Metcalf to stay a few days & left the other 3 Kids here. Dean picked tomatoes & earned $5. Gail, Lynda & Kids came awhile, went to Dr.  & they stayed here. Gail was real sick. Jerry wound things up to go to Utah.

Thurs, Aug 16.  Jerry moved to Salt Lake. Got letter from Kay.

Fri, Aug 17.  Ivard took all the Kids up to Park to play while Dean & I cleaned up house, Dean scrubbed & waxed floors & we moved everything.

Sat, Aug 18.  Lyle, Barbra & Douglas came about noon to stay the week-end & Terry. Gail, Lynda & Kids & Gene came at 8: We drew names for Xmas.

Sun, Aug 19.  Lyle & Dean went to Priesthood & Sunday school, Ivard stayed home & took Stanley - Terry - David, Dale & Jackie to Sunday School.

Mon, Aug 20.  Lyle, Dean  & Ivard went over to Metcalfs & picked cantalope.

Tues, Aug 21.  Dale went selling cards.

Wed, Aug 22.  Lyle called & said him & Gail were going to Givins tonite so Dean & I went & got groc. to fix a lunch to take. When Ray got home from work at 6: & went to Givins swimming. after we got out we all ate lunch out in Park. Gene hurt his arm fooling on swing. We got home at 10:30.

Thurs, Aug 23.  Ivard came home from work & laid down awhile then him & Ray & Dean went over to Metcalfs at 9:30 to pick tomatoes & cantalope. Rays day off.

Fri, Aug 24.  I spent all day sewing on Jackies Jumper.

Sat, Aug 25.  Jerry came from Utah. Gail & family, Lyle & Family & Gene were here. Ray left for Utah on 8:30 train for Johny Winters Farewell.

Sun, Aug 26.  Jerry went back to Utah.

Mon, Aug 27.  I run juice through and used part of it to bottle 29 qts of tomoatoes with cold pack. I bottled 7 qts. juice. At 6: Ivard & I left for Boise to show. Saw "West Side Story." It was good. After we went to "Louies" & had chow mein. It was midnite when we got home.

Tues, Aug 28.  Ray was supposed to get home to go to work this morning but missed the train.

Wed, Aug 29.  Ray got home on train this morning. I got up & finished the tomatoe juice I cooked last nite. Got 50 qts juice & 28 qts tomatoes. We all went to Boise to State Fair. The ice follies were pretty good. It was cold. Went on couple of rides.

Thurs, Aug 30.  I got called back to Simplots for Tuesday nite. Ward teachers came. I gave all of Lyles Kids a pr. of new pajamas & we got them to ed & played penochle until 11:30.

Fri, Aug 31.  Gail came & stayed all nite.

6 What in the world

London 2012
The summer Olympic games of the XXX Olympiad opened in London on Friday, July 27. They end on Sunday, August 12. London is the first city in the world to officially host the modern Olympics three times (in 1908, 1948, and now in 2012).

Brigham City open house and dedication
The newly built Brigham City Utah Temple will be open to visitors of all faiths from Saturday, August 18, through Saturday, September 15 (excluding Sundays and Saturday, September 8). Advance reservations may be made by visiting www.templeopenhouse.lds.org (maximum 20 reservations per person) or by calling 1-855-537-2000.

The Brigham City temple, the 14th in Utah, will be dedicated on Sunday, September 23, in three sessions. The dedicatory sessions will be broadcast to stakes throughout Utah and also to stakes in southeastern Idaho that are within the temple district. All regular Church meetings will be cancelled that day to allow members to participate in the dedicatory services. There will also be a cultural celebration featuring music and dance on Saturday, September 22.

Boise open house and dedication
The remodeled and refurbished Boise Idaho Temple will be open to visitors from Saturday, October 13, through Saturday, November 10 (excluding Sundays). It will be rededicated on Sunday, November 18, in three sessions. A cultural celebration will be held the day before on Saturday, November 17. Free tickets for the open house will become available at a later date.

7 A final word

Earlier in this issue, we quoted Joe L. Wheeler's observation that "there is something deep within us that sobs at endings."

I have been feeling that way this week as I retire after 39 1/2 years of employment. Today is my first day of retirement. There is a poignant reminder that, except for many marvelous memories, I am losing my daily association with all that I have loved about four decades of service among faithful, dedicated, talented souls who love the Lord.


But endings are also beginnings. Sunsets here are sunrises on some distant shore. And I am excited beyond measure to be entering the next season of my life.

Ever since the early days of our marriage I have looked forward to the day when Claudia and I could serve a full-time mission together. That day is rapidly approaching. We are eager for the new experiences,  the new associations, and the new opportunities for service that will be ours as we travel off to Omaha next January to serve in the Mormon Trail Center at Historic Winter Quarters.
